Operations Manager
The Project Manager is responsible for the safe, compliant and commercially successful delivery of gas infrastructure projects from operational handover through construction, commissioning and close‑out. Working closely with our Pre‑Construction team, the role takes ownership of projects following completion of design, mobilisation and pre‑start activities, delivering in line with the agreed scope, programme, cost and risk baselines. For smaller or lower‑complexity projects, the Project Manager may also be required to manage pre‑construction activities, including early client engagement, and mobilisation, ensuring proportionate and efficient delivery.
Pre‑Construction Interface & Handover
- Manage construction and commissioning activities for gas projects across pipelines and AGIs.
- Coordinate internal teams, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure efficient and safe execution.
- Deliver projects in accordance with contractual requirements, specifications and industry standards.
- Ensure full compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
- Ensure work complies with specifications, codes and standards, regulations and company procedures.
- Promote a strong safety culture across all project teams.
- Take responsibility for project financial performance in line with approved pre‑construction cost models.
- Manage variations, compensation events and commercial negotiations.
- Work closely with commercial teams to protect margin and manage change control.
- Maintain and manage the project programme developed during pre‑construction.
- Actively manage risks transferred from pre‑construction and identify delivery‑phase risks.
- Implement mitigation measures and corrective actions where required.
- Act as the primary client contact during construction and commissioning phases.
- Maintain strong client relationships and transparent communication.
- Attend progress meetings, site visits and governance reviews.
- Provide leadership to site managers, engineers and delivery teams.
- Ensure appropriate resourcing levels are maintained.
- Support development and performance management of project staff.
- Proven experience delivering gas infrastructure projects within the utilities sector advantageous.
- Strong commercial awareness and stakeholder management skills.
- Project management qualification (APM, PRINCE2 or equivalent).
- SMSTS and CSCS accreditation.
