Join us as a Technology & Commercial Lawyer - VP at Barclays, where you will be part of our Global Commercial, Innovation and Technology (CIT) Legal team. We provide a wide range of legal services and advice across the Barclays Group, operating at the cutting edge of law, innovation, and regulation.
In this role, you will advise on a range of commercial contracts for businesses across the Bank, with a focus on complex market data vendor agreements. You will be tasked with leading and supporting transactional work for the Market Data team, including working with the business to negotiate license rights, redistribution of data rights, restrictions around AI usage and key legal terms.
This role can be based in Manchester, Birmingham or Glasgow.
Key Qualifications- Qualified lawyer (Solicitor, Barrister, or equivalent in the UK or another comparable jurisdiction)
- Strong expertise in commercial contracts and technology agreements, ideally within the financial services sector
- Knowledge of license rights, data distribution, and AI restrictions in vendor agreements
- Proven ability to manage stakeholders and deliver results in a fast paced environment
- Experience in regulatory frameworks relevant to financial services
- Experience with technology related transactions
- Genuine interest in AI, technology, and innovation
- Experience with process improvement
- Experience with optimisation
- Experience working with market data vendors and negotiating on their contractual terms
To ensure that the commercial, innovation, technology, real estate, sponsorship, data licensing and service activities (CIT Areas) are conducted in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and to help the bank manage legal and reputational risks associated with these activities.
Accountabilities- Development and implementation of best practice legal strategies for risk management and compliance.
- Legal advice and support to the business on CIT Areas, including regulatory advice and advocacy, innovation and technology strategy, and contract drafting, review and negotiation.
- Representation of the bank in legal proceedings related to CIT Areas, such as litigation, arbitration, and regulatory investigations.
- Creation and review of legal documents including agreements and licenses for commercial services, technology, software, data, real estate, and sponsorship and other legal documents to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Legal research and analysis to stay up to date on changes in laws and regulations that may impact the bank across the CIT Areas.
- Developing and delivering training programmes to educate employees on legal and regulatory requirements related to the CIT Areas.
- Pro-active identification, communication, and provision of legal advice on applicable laws, rules and regulations (LRRs). Keeping up to date with regards to changes to LRRs in the relevant coverage area. Ensuring that LRRs are effectively allocated to, and adequately reflected within, the relevant policies, standards and controls.
- To contribute or set strategy, drive requirements and make recommendations for change. Plan resources, budgets, and policies; manage and maintain policies/ processes; deliver continuous improvements and expedite breaches of policies/procedures.
- If managing a team, they define jobs and responsibilities, planning for the department’s future needs and operations, counselling employees on performance and contributing to employee pay decisions/changes. They may also lead a number of specialists to influence the operations of a department, in alignment with strategic as well as tactical priorities, while balancing short and long term goals and ensuring that budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements.
