Lawes Consulting is delighted to be partnering with a leading composite insurer to recruit a Property & Casualty Underwriter, based in their Manchester office. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced underwriter to manage and grow a diverse portfolio of Property and Casualty risks, working closely with independent brokers across the region.

• Underwrite new and renewal business across core Property and Casualty lines within the mid-market
• Evaluate risk and apply sound underwriting judgment to deliver profitable decisions
• Develop and maintain strong trading relationships with national and independent brokers
• Support the achievement of regional growth and retention objectives
• Ensure underwriting activity aligns with internal governance standards and regulatory compliance
• Provide technical input on complex or non-standard risks where needed

• Office-based in Manchester, handling a varied portfolio of P&C cases
• Assess submissions, negotiate terms, and make informed underwriting decisions
• Engage with brokers to secure new business and retain existing accounts
• Use underwriting systems and pricing tools to manage casework efficiently
• Identify and develop new business opportunities within appetite
• Contribute to underwriting initiatives and team discussions around strategy and performance

• Experience in Property and Casualty underwriting
• Proven background in assessing and trading P&C risks
• Experience and network within the Manchester market
• Solid understanding of the UK P&C insurance market

• Strong technical expertise in Property and Casualty insurance products
• Effective communicator with strong broker relationship skills
• Commercially focused, with the ability to balance risk and opportunity
• Confident in decision-making and prioritising workload
• Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work independently within a team environment
