Job Role: 2nd Line Network Support Engineer
Location: Manchester (Hybrid)
Salary: Up to £35,000, plus an excellent benefits package
The opportunity is for a Network Engineer who enjoys hands-on networking work and wants to join a provider where the network function is taken seriously. The business is growing and investing in its network capability, expanding its national fibre rollout, building on an existing owned dark fibre and fixed wireless estate, and improving how the network is designed, monitored and supported.
There is a focus on automation and software-defined networking while maintaining day-to-day service delivery.
They are adding to the network team due to growth and want engineers who stay current with industry developments.
Responsibilities- Keep customer networks running reliably and resolve more complex issues when they arise.
- Take ownership of incidents from start to finish, communicate with customers, and work through problems methodically.
- Work across LAN, WLAN, routing, switching and firewall technologies, including access point and RF issues, performance troubleshooting, firewall rules, VPNs and security policies.
- Perform regular health checks and audits across the customer estate to spot issues early and improve service quality.
- Manage multiple tickets and participate in a 24/7 on-call rota in a busy MSP environment.
- Solid 2nd line background with MSP support experience and comfort dealing directly with customers.
- 2+ years in a network support role with fundamentals in TCP/IP, routing and switching, and hands-on experience with WLAN and firewall technologies.
- Experience with Fortinet firewalls is useful; exposure to vendors such as Juniper, Ruckus or Cisco is beneficial.
- Strong troubleshooting, clear communication, and ownership of issues until resolution.
- Certifications such as CCNA or vendor-specific quals are a bonus, not a requirement.
The role pays up to £35,000 and includes a strong benefits package: 27 days of annual leave plus bank holidays (with a buy option), and private healthcare.
