Overview
A full time 6 months fixed term opportunity has become available for Speciality Doctor grade in Hospital Mental Health Liaison team at Manchester Royal Infirmary.
The postholder will be based at Manchester Royal Infirmary and will work closely with the Consultant liaison Psychiatrist, Junior doctors and mental health practitioners of the hospital mental health liaison team. It is an all-age service and provides Core 24 liaison psychiatry service to the Manchester Foundation Hospital NHS Trust. The post holder will support assessment and management of patients attending the emergency department and admitted to the wards in Manchester Royal Infirmary.
ResponsibilitiesThe post holder would be required to have section 12 approval and has previous experience of working in Liaison psychiatry service. The post holder will be based at MRI, with an office in the Rawnsley Building. They will be a senior member of the team providing medical leadership and clinical care to the patients referred to the MHLT. The post holder will be involved in assessing and managing referrals for patients over the age of 16 years.
The team aims to have a can do attitude and works in a flexible manner to be as helpful as possible. The main objectives of the team are to provide high quality assessments and effective liaison between service providers in the Mental Health Trust and the Acute Hospital Trust. The service offers comprehensive psychiatric assessment, and further management if required whilst the patient remains an inpatient in Manchester Royal Infirmary and St Mary s Hospital.
The post holder will not take responsibility for the continuing care of all the patients referred. The team provides effective liaison between services which include Acute inpatient wards, Acute Adult Psychiatry inpatient wards, Community Mental Health teams, Home Treatment Service, Emergency Services at Manchester Royal Infirmary, Delivery Suites, Perinatal Psychiatry Services, Later Life Services and Elderly Care wards.
The post holder will need to be Section 12 approved. They will be expected to become involved in Mental Health Act work as required.
