Supervisor, Newborn Hearing Screening Programme

The closing date is 29 January 2026

Manchester Newborn Hearing Screening Programme is one of the largest hearing screening programmes in the Northwest, completing approximately 16,500 newborn hearing screens a year. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join us as a Band 4 Supervisor.

The post holder will be based at North Manchester General Hospital. A full driving licence and access to a car is essential as some cross site travel and clinic cover will be required. You will be responsible for the supervision of a team of screeners and assisting the Local Manager in the day-to-day management of the programme across all 3 sites.

This role is part time, working predominantly Wednesday to Friday. You may occasionally be asked to cover alternative days and so flexibility will be required.

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the development of the role and overall success of the Screening Programme. In return we will provide a comprehensive induction programme including service specific training if required. If not already completed, the successful candidate may be required to undertake the fully funded Level 3 Diploma for Health (Newborn Hearing Screening). This is a national qualification which non-professionally regulated staff working in some screening services complete.

The Diploma involves a range of written, oral, and practical assessments and must be completed within 12 months of commencement. Self-directed study will be required.

Main duties of the job

Update and maintain knowledge of hearing screening clinical protocols and procedures and relevant audiology referral pathways.

Undertake NHSP learning activities as required for own professional CPD, including reflective practice.

Take a leading role in training and assessment of new and established screeners primarily based within your team but, where necessary, across all three sites.

Monitor screening consumables levels, ensuring efficient use and collecting supplies from Moss Side Health Centre.

Support staff in the implementation of cCMV testing for babies that refer to audiology from the newborn hearing screen.

Strive for continuous personal and staff development and lead by example.

Prioritise own workload and be flexible enough to meet the demands of the service.
