  • Organise and co-ordinate the provision of nursing services for the practice to include the delegation of duties to other practice nursing staff as appropriate.
  • Provide nursing treatments to patients in participation with general practitioners or independently to agreed protocols
  • Provide general and specific health screenings to the practice patients (within agreed protocols) with referral to general practitioners as necessary.
  • Advise patients on general health care and minor ailments with referral to GPs as necessary.

Supplies and equipment Treatment/Examination room and other areas

  • In participation with the practice manager, ensure the maintenance of equipment and stock levels relating to patient care.

Pathological specimens and investigatory procedures

  • Following appropriate training, undertake the collection, storage and despatch of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears etc and ensure the cleanliness of any equipment so used. Perform any investigatory procedures requested by the GPs.

Clinical Skills (Training will be supported in deficit areas)

  • Blood pressure monitoring and referral to GP according to hypertension guidelines.
  • Assessment of the elderly with poor mobility or housebound
  • COPD review according to guidelines
  • Asthma review according to guidelines
  • Diabetes review according to guidelines
  • CHD/CVA review according to guidelines
  • Foot assessment
  • Smear taking
  • General health assessment
  • Health promotion
  • New patient checks
  • Ear irrigation (currently suspended)

Information Technology

Use of In Practice Systems e.g. EMIS, Docman

Microsoft Windows and Office

  • Lead and coordinate all infection prevention and control activities across the practice.
  • Develop, implement, and update IPC policies and protocols in line with national guidance.
  • Conduct regular IPC audits (e.g., hand hygiene, environmental cleanliness, sharps safety) and produce action plans.
  • Oversee safe vaccine handling and cold-chain management.
  • Provide IPC training, updates, and support for the clinical and non-clinical team.
  • Act as the main point of contact for CQC and ICS/ICB IPC teams.
  • Monitor infection trends and support outbreak management.

Ensure robust documentation, reporting, and compliance with CQC infection prevention standards.

Administrative and professional responsibilities

  • Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team
  • Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes on the clinical computer system as appropriate
