Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the world’s largest Virology departments. The Virology department forms part of The Manchester Medical Microbiology Partnership (MMMP), a collaboration between Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) and United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Medical Laboratory Assistant. Previous experience would be desirable but is not essential. The post holder will work as part of the laboratory team, providing a high level of microbiological analysis to support patient diagnosis and treatment.
Department and EnvironmentThe laboratory is accredited by UKAS (ISO
15189 standard). We actively encourage CPD activities. The department supports a comprehensive Virology service across 7 days, with staff potentially working a variety of shifts, including weekends, within a 24 hour period when appropriate to the post.
Please note this is a 24/7 contracted position with a requirement to be available for weekends and nights. The role is expected to involve at least one weekend day per week.
About the ServiceThe Virology service at the Manchester Royal Infirmary site employs over 100 staff and handles a workload of approximately 1.5 million specimens per year (about 6,500 specimens per day). The department combines state-of-the-art laboratory automation with traditional methods to deliver a modern clinical virology service.
