Overview
The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 7 Nurse Specialist to join the melanoma oncology team in Manchester for a 6-month fixed-term, part-time role. The post focuses on supporting patients undergoing non-surgical treatment for melanoma, including immunotherapy, targeted therapy and other novel treatments. The post holder will work with medical oncology consultants, clinical fellows and advanced practitioners to manage and coordinate care in outpatient and inpatient settings.
Applicants with a nursing background in melanoma and/or immunotherapy are welcome; oncology nursing experience will also be considered. The post requires excellent communication, interpersonal and project/ service development skills, with flexibility in working hours.

- Provide a comprehensive nursing service for patients with melanoma through clinical practice, teaching and participation in research.
- Act as a resource for the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and coordinate information and education for patients, carers and staff.
- Provide emotional support from diagnosis onwards, ensuring continuity of care for patients and relatives.
- Work within clearly defined protocols and collaborate with internal and external MDT members to ensure smooth transitions between hospital and community care.
- Lead service development, establish standards and protocols for melanoma care, and contribute to audit and research to demonstrate impact.
- Develop holistic needs assessments and recovery packages to enable patients to live with and beyond cancer.
- Attend outpatient clinics and initiate nurse-led clinics when appropriate to support patients outside standard appointments.
- Provide cross-cover for other Nurse Specialists and promote self-management.
- Educate and train other professionals and ward staff about melanoma and systemic anti-cancer treatment (SACT).
- Collect and analyse quantitative and qualitative data for productivity, outcomes and quality through audit and research; monitor adherence to clinical guidelines.
- Participate in multi-professional meetings as a patient advocate and role model advanced communication skills.
- Clinical practice: manage a caseload, provide information on regimens and side effects, maintain high standards of record keeping, prescribe within scope, liaise with consultants and other skin cancer Nurse Specialists to ensure smooth care transitions.
- Educational: educate patients and families about melanoma; participate in teaching and nurse education; support professional development and ongoing education within the Trust.
- Leadership and management: act as a role model, develop relationships, maintain records and contribute to service evaluation and annual reporting; participate in audits; manage stock and equipment; help establish care standards.
- Research: maintain knowledge base of relevant research and ensure evidence-based care in the melanoma service.
- Professional: supervise and support nursing staff; develop protocols; complete PDP and be aware of NMC codes and trust policies.
- Communication: maintain regular contact with patients and families; liaise with hospital teams and community services; provide clear written information for healthcare professionals and patients.
Essential qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RGN)
- Degree in Nursing or health-related subject or equivalent experience
- Post-registration qualification in oncology
- Non-medical prescribing (NMP) qualification
- Evidence of leadership and teaching/mentoring
Desirable qualifications
- Teaching and assessing qualification
- Masters degree
- Counselling certificate
- Palliative care certificate
- Nurse non-medical prescribing
Essential experience
- Senior-level post-registration experience
- Broad clinical experience with melanoma or related areas
- Experience of working with patients undergoing SACT
