The aim of this project is to provide evidence for the need and acceptability of routine sensory motor assessments and treatment for autistic adults without learning disabilities and to identify and map appropriate intervention pathways.

Responsibilities

• Monitor participant recruitment and communicate with OTs, research team and participants.
• Collate assessment reports and questionnaires into spreadsheets.
• Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis (framework analysis) on the data.
• Work with the Chief Investigator to develop, run and contribute to workshops and surveys.
• Help design the toolkit and contribute to dissemination of findings through publications, presentations, PPI and clinical material.

Desired skills and experience

• Experience working with or researching autistic adults.
• Experience co‑producing research with autistic people.
• Experience in sensory motor research.
• Knowledge of the brain and cognitive underpinnings of sensory and motor difficulties in the autistic population.

Project phases

• Phase 1:
  Recruit autistic adults from two diagnostic clinics, provide SMD assessment, collect follow‑up data via survey and open‑ended questions.
• Phase 2:
  Develop a toolkit of guidance on appropriate SMD assessments and intervention options through workshops and a survey.

The project is funded by an NIHR Research for Patient Benefit grant.

To cover maternity leave for six months in the first instance.
