Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
Here in Manchester Local Care Organisation, we are a forward‑thinking, motivated SALT team. We are looking for one permanent, Band 6 therapist and one fixed‑term (12 months) Band 6 therapist to join our city‑wide Mainstream Schools Team.
With a solid theoretical knowledge of paediatric communication impairments and an understanding of the issues affecting an inner‑city, multi‑ethnic community, you will have a particular enthusiasm for working with children in mainstream schools and children who have developmental language disorder.
You will work alongside key partners such as parents, schools and other health workers in managing the child’s needs, and will be based within the mainstream schools team within the larger city‑wide service.
In Manchester many of the patients are from families whose mother tongue is not English. You will be required to have access to a vehicle for work purposes.
The Manchester SALT team is a large, well‑established and supportive department. There is a good CPD process including clinical support and mentoring, opportunities to attend internal SIGs and peer support groups, and a comprehensive induction programme, one‑to‑one support and annual appraisals to develop knowledge and skills where appropriate.
To provide SALT support to children on the caseload with Speech, Language and Communication needs within a mainstream school setting city‑wide you will be involved in assessment, intervention and follow‑up of these children. You will work within schools providing support around universal, targeted and specialist speech and language and communication needs, and will provide training to school staff and specific provision as appropriate to the school you are working in.
As a Band 6 SALT you will also support other SLTs who are developing their competencies and provide training to other professionals, for example specialist support teachers, TAs and parents/carers.
Working days are Monday to Friday.
