- BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) clearance - this post is subject to BPSS checks. You will therefore be required to consent to and comply with BPSS checking requirements prior to commencing in this post. This check involves verification of identity; nationality and immigration status; employment history (past 3 years) and basic criminal record check.

As one of two Technical Officers on the team you will provide a high quality, holistic approach to maximising collection for the Council and are expected to come up with innovative solutions for difficult cases.
Working in line with national and corporate policies, procedures and legislative requirements, you will need to understand and be responsive to customer needs, always presenting a positive and professional image to the customer whilst ensuring effective engagement with all stakeholders.
You will deal with complex casework as well as maintaining and balancing the VOA schedules and be responsible for representing the Council at Court and Valuation Tribunals.
You will support the business rates team by providing assistance and training when necessary.
As a Technical Officer you will be able to work on your own initiative with excellent communication skills to provide advice and support with difficult cases. You will require a comprehensive, detailed and working knowledge of the legislation surrounding local taxation; preferably relating to Non Domestic Rates. You will possess the skills necessary to be an advocate for the council including in a court environment.

You will be self‑motivated and use personal drive to get results within expected timescales.
To achieve your targets and help us improve our service you will have excellent communication, ICT and administrative skills as well as being able to plan and organise yourself.
