About the Risk Consulting Public & Social Sector Team

This team offers internal audit, advisory and assurance services in the public sector, supporting organisations that serve local communities.

Role Overview

As a school leaver apprentice you will undertake a four‑year training contract within our public & social sector Risk Consulting team. Your work will involve internal audit reviews across a range of public bodies including local government, education, central government, housing, police and charities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct internal audits from opening meeting to report writing.
  • Test and review documentation to assess risk exposure and controls.
  • Obtain information from clients and build rapport.
  • Use tools and methods to audit business operations and provide recommendations.
  • Understand client business, best practice and regulations.
  • Take ownership of audit projects and provide written feedback.
  • Develop professional skills through training and support.
Your Training Pathway
  • First 2 years: Perform audits, manage projects, write reports and develop skills.
  • Third year: Support planning, specialise in sub‑sectors, write reports and mentor junior staff.
  • Final year: Manage audits with minimal supervision, lead client contact, oversee junior members and prepare for manager role.
Eligibility & Qualifications
  • School leaver or on track to A‑level or equivalent.
  • Strong academic record and a curiosity to learn.
  • Critical thinker with problem‑solving skills.
  • Commitment to self‑development and high ownership.
  • Positive attitude, excellent time management and a willingness to travel.
Learning and Development

Fully funded professional qualifications: ACA with CIA. Coaching, mentorship, digital, client and technical training are provided.
