Interim Financial Controller – Very Hybrid/Quasi Remote, North Manchester Offices, 3-6 month FTC
An SME charity is seeking an experienced Interim Financial Controller to support the organisation during a key period of financial oversight, reporting and planning.
This is a hands-on senior finance role, ideal for an interim who can quickly take ownership of financial control, statutory reporting and team leadership within a charity environment.
The RoleReporting to the senior leadership team, you will have full responsibility for the finance function across both the charity and its trading subsidiary.
Note: The following responsibilities are core to the role and subject to change as required by the organisation.
- Production of monthly management accounts and Statutory Annual Accounts in line with Charity SORP (FRS
102) and trading entity requirements - Leading the year-end process and liaising with external auditors
- Preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, including scenario planning around membership levels and staffing
- Working closely with budget holders to support forecasting and budget setting
- Full responsibility for cashflow management across charity and trading bank accounts
- Management of service level agreements relating to debt management and accounts payable
- Submission of HMRC VAT returns and related sector-specific returns
- Leadership, development and motivation of a finance team of three, including appraisals and personal development plans
- Ensuring accurate and timely processing of creditor and debtor invoices
- Maintenance of the Fixed Asset Register
You will be a confident interim who is comfortable operating in a small-to-medium charity environment.
You will bring- Full accountancy qualification (CCAB or equivalent)
- Strong experience within the charity or not-for-profit sector
- In-depth knowledge of Charity SORP (FRS
102) - Proven experience producing statutory accounts and managing audits
- Solid VAT experience
- Strong people management and team leadership skills
- A hands-on, pragmatic approach with the ability to deliver to deadlines
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with non-finance stakeholders
