Highways Engineer needed in Manchester, £22.18ph PAYE - Reference: 000A 8994 / 1

Deliver an innovative, forward thinking technical consultancy function for the Highways service, ensuring that solutions are developed in line with customer and legislative requirements and support the wider objectives. Dependent on the service area, this may include software / information technology support, engineering, surveying, curating or other specialist functions.

Support with the delivery of work ensuring that solutions are developed in line with customer and legislative requirements and support the wider objectives.

Analyse and interpret legislation, presenting information and complex technical matters relating to the service area in a clear and concise manner to a range of stakeholders, orally and in writing. This will include identifying and addressing complex issues and making informed recommendations on action needed to support key corporate objectives.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Traffic and Road Safety Team Manager with:

  • A good understanding of traffic, parking management and road safety engineering/legislation.
  • Writing initial project scopes to provide to the MCC Highway Client Team so they can provide options / proposed solutions.
  • Checking Highway Schemes from a Traffic perspective to ensure that schemes / projects are fit for purpose and in line with standards and guidelines.
  • Dealing with enquiries from Councillors, MPs, officers, members of the public and partners such as Transport for Greater Manchester and Greater Manchester Police.
  • Interrogating and analysing collision data, undertaking site assessments and reporting and presenting findings.
  • Preparing new processes to support the development of the Traffic and Road Safety Team.
  • Have a good understanding of budgets, governance, and working within a highly political environment.
  • Supporting the delivery of CDM as the Highways. Ensuring the appropriate duties are carried out under CDM.

This is a Full time role on a temporary contract basis.
