Overall, Purpose of the Job
We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Technical Specialist to join our dynamic Technical Operations team, which strives to provide sector leading technical support for our students, staff and external customers. This role will take place within the ‘TANIST' lab (Tescan and Newtec in situ testing), a facility dedicated to in situ mechanical and thermal testing. The purpose of this role is to:
- Deliver thermal and mechanical testing using multiple micro‑tester stages that can be interchanged between two scanning electron microscopes and an optical workstation.
- Be part of a team of Technical Specialists and Application Scientists to deliver service work to external customers and support internal users.
- Offer specialised training, advice in your area of expertise and, where appropriate, a bespoke service to users of the TANIST lab. This will involve devising project plans and implementing specific strategies to improve response times and provide necessary training throughput.
- Ensure that the specialty systems are fully operational and comply with the University’s Health and Safety standards.
