An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior, Principal or Associate Air Quality Consultant to join a highly respected environmental consultancy as they expand their technical capabilities.
This role offers the chance to lead and establish the air quality service line within a growing business, working closely with an established environmental and acoustic consultancy team delivering projects across the UK and Ireland.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced air quality professional who is motivated by the prospect of building a service offering from the ground up, shaping technical standards, developing new client relationships, and influencing the long-term strategy of the business.
The position is based in Manchester, with flexibility to manage projects nationally. This role has progression opportunities to a Director level role.
The Role
As an Associate Air Quality Consultant, you will take a leading role in developing and delivering air quality consultancy services across a wide range of development and infrastructure projects.
You will be responsible for establishing internal methodologies, delivering technical assessments, and helping to position the consultancy as a recognised provider of high-quality environmental advice.
Key responsibilities will include:
Leading and delivering air quality assessments for planning and environmental projects
Designing and implementing air quality monitoring strategies including PM10, PM2.5 and NO₂ monitoring
Undertaking dispersion modelling and emissions assessments
Preparing robust and defensible technical reports for planning and regulatory submissions
Developing internal modelling protocols, reporting templates and QA procedures
Supporting the procurement and implementation of monitoring equipment and modelling software
Providing technical review and quality assurance across air quality projects
Engaging with local authorities, regulators and project teams to agree assessment methodologies
Supporting business development, including proposal preparation and fee submissions
Identifying opportunities for growth in areas such as construction monitoring, operational emissions assessments and compliance monitoring
The successful candidate will also play a key role in helping to grow the air quality capability within the business, with opportunities to support future recruitment and mentor junior consultants as the team expands.
Candidate Requirements
Significant experience delivering air quality consultancy projects within a UK environmental consultancy
Able to undertake business development duties to gain exposure within the Air Quality market.
Strong understanding of UK planning policy, DEFRA guidance and IAQM guidance
Proven experience with air quality monitoring and dispersion modelling
Experience producing Air Quality Assessments for planning applications
Strong technical reporting and client communication skills
Ability to work independently and manage projects autonomously
A proactive mindset with an interest in developing and growing a new service line Professional membership with a relevant body (IAQM / IES / CIWEM or similar) would be advantageous.
