A well-established and growing Mechanical Services company based on the outskirts of Manchester is looking to appoint a Pre-Construction / Mechanical Estimator to play a key role in its continued commercial growth.
This is not a back-office pricing position. The role requires technical understanding, commercial awareness, client engagement, and the ability to bridge the gap between enquiry and delivery. You will be responsible for producing accurate, competitive and deliverable mechanical estimates across a range of sectors.
This role would suit:- A Mechanical Estimator looking for more ownership
- A Senior Engineer ready to step into estimating
- Reviewing tender documentation including drawings, specifications and schedules
- Carrying out site surveys to understand access, risks and phasing constraints
- Producing detailed cost build-ups using estimating software
- Issuing RFQs and negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors
- Pricing boiler replacements, heating upgrades, plant renewals and similar works
- Supporting reactive teams with urgent replacement pricing
- Identifying value‑engineered solutions without compromising compliance
- Attending pre‑start meetings and ensuring clear handover to operations
- Managing and pricing variations during live projects
- Supporting valuations and ensuring alignment between estimate and final account
Value of the jobs from £20k-£250k.
This role combines office‑based estimating with site visits across the Northwest.
What We’re Looking For- Mechanical background (engineering, site or estimating experience)
- Strong understanding of commercial heating systems and plant
- Ability to interpret drawings and specifications
- Commercial awareness and margin understanding
- Experience producing material take‑offs and cost build‑ups
- Comfortable engaging with clients and suppliers
- Organised, structured and detail‑oriented
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Estimating software experience desirable (training available)
- Salary depending on experience between £42,000 - £55,000 per annum
- 5 weeks annual leave
