Our Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeships
Our apprenticeships allow you to study for industry‑recognised qualifications whilst earning a competitive salary. As an apprentice, you will study with a training provider, such as a college, and combine this experience with real responsibilities in the workplace. Your study pattern could be day or block release, or via distance learning, depending on the course that you enrol on. A dedicated mentor will guide you through your personal and professional development.
Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeships have a typical duration of two to three years, during which you will attain both a professional and academic qualification to further your career. Our apprentices are employed on a permanent basis, so you’ll continue to progress with Arup once you’ve completed your course.
Building Information Modelling (BIM) has now become commonplace in the UK construction industry and the Digital Built Britain strategy intends to build on the technology and processes implemented which is an integral part of delivering this strategy.
We are currently looking for a MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health) BIM apprentice technician to join our Manchester‑based buildings team to strengthen our BIM capabilities. You will work alongside industry experts within the BIM and engineering design teams whilst working on projects in the following sectors: airports, data centres, education, healthcare, hospitality, residential, commercial, transport, sports & leisure.
The apprenticeship course begins with a Level 3 Building Services Engineering Technician apprenticeship to gain fundamentals and understanding of building services design principles, design software and industry standards used to deliver a building project. Once completed, there is an opportunity to embark on a relevant Level 4 apprenticeship.
The role of a Building Services Engineering BIM Technician involves collaboration with BIM designers, engineers and other construction professionals in the development of cost‑effective technical and sustainable design solutions. Duties will include the production of three‑dimensional (3D) models, drawings, calculations, information management documents, and clash detection. Your work will typically include designing systems such as renewable technologies, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, drainage, lighting, power, and fire systems using various digital technologies and automation tools.
You will be involved in design team meetings, driving model information during collaborative design co‑ordination sessions and working together with others to solve design problems.
Alongside project delivery you will learn about procedural gatekeeping of information, ensuring compliance with industry strategies and standards, including knowledge of ISO 19650.
To support your Level 3 apprenticeship standard, you will complete an online portfolio of evidence which will be supervised by your Arup mentor through the duration of the apprenticeship. Completion of the apprenticeship standard will be confirmed following the satisfactory conclusion of an End Point Assessment which is reviewed and awarded by a professional body.
