Principal Town Planner

Overview

AECOM is seeking a Principal Town Planner to work on infrastructure planning projects across the UK with a focus on DCO projects. The role supports projects in energy/renewables, transport, defence, water and more. Base location can be flexible with hybrid working; offices include Manchester among others.

• Lead and assist in the delivery of major development applications.
• Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams across various project types.
• Submit and manage planning applications, liaising and negotiating with local planning authorities and key stakeholders.
• Provide planning advice on consent requirements and permitted development rights.
• Produce planning feasibility reports and consent strategies.
• Write Planning Statements and Design and Access Statements for development applications.
• Contribute to business development in market sectors; identify opportunities and build client relationships.
• Lead and contribute to successful commercial tenders.
• Collaborate with Environmental Impact Assessment teams and participate in stakeholder meetings.
• Oversee project management, ensuring quality and adherence to health and safety principles.

• Degree in Town Planning or related discipline.
• Membership of RTPI or equivalent.
• Significant experience leading planning applications for large infrastructure projects across various regimes.
• Excellent written communication skills; ability to write clearly and concisely.
• Client focus with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; existing relationships with clients and local authorities preferred.
• Experience with business development and working with tenders.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure.

Base locations include:
Basingstoke, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Chesterfield, Leeds, London Aldgate, Manchester, Nottingham and Plymouth, with hybrid options.
