Job Description

An opportunity has arisen to join the team at Cubico Sustainable Investments as a GIS Analyst. Reporting to the Head of Origination
-UK, this role's main responsibility is to conduct spatial analysis and create detailed, high-quality maps to support site selection, feasibility studies, development plans, land ownership assessments for renewable energy projects (solar, wind and battery storage) across the UK.

This position will work from our Manchester office on a hybrid basis.

Job Requirements
  • Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, ArcGIS Online).
  • Experience with ArcGIS Online for web mapping, app building, dashboard creation and sharing data across teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of spatial analysis and geospatial modelling techniques.
  • Skilled at producing high-quality cartographic outputs.
  • Excellent data management skills and a strong understanding of available UK geospatial data.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office software suite.
  • Familiarity with automating tasks and processes using Python, ESRI tools and/or FME.
  • Analytical problem solver, with strong ability to analyse large and complex datasets, identify patterns, and extract insights to inform project planning and decision-making.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex data and analysis to both technical and non-technical audiences and build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to address challenges with creative solutions, ensuring optimal outcomes for projects.
  • Ability to work with precision and maintain high standards in geospatial data accuracy and reporting.
  • Organisational skills to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • An enthusiastic character, with a collaborative mindset and the ability to display determination, drive and motivation to learn new skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Geography, Geospatial Information Systems, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Engineering or other related field or relevant renewable energy discipline. A Master’s degree is not essential, but is desirable.
Experience
  • A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience as a GIS Analyst, ideally within the renewable energy sector or another environmental sector but it is not essential.
Job Responsibilities
  • Conduct spatial analysis and create detailed, high-quality maps to support site selection, feasibility studies, development plans, land ownership assessments for renewable energy projects (solar, wind, battery storage, etc.) across the UK.
  • Collect, manage, and maintain geospatial data related to land ownership, land use, environmental constraints, infrastructure, and regulatory guidelines in line with internal project development standards and UK planning standards and regulations.
  • Assist in identifying and evaluating potential sites for renewable energy project opportunities.
  • Provide support in identifying and assessing the feasibility of grid-scale wind, solar PV and battery storage projects in the UK from a development risk perspective. Evaluate project risks from a GIS perspective and provide mitigation strategies.
  • Work closely with project managers and third-party consultants to integrate GIS data into the project lifecycle.
  • Utilise GIS software (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online) and other data analysis tools for geospatial analysis, visualisation and collaboration.
  • Manage an internal ArcGIS Online presence for creating and maintaining web maps, apps and dashboards, and sharing data and analysis across teams and stakeholders.
  • Ensure the quality and consistency of GIS data, maintaining high standards in data accuracy, integrity, and adherence to both internal and UK industry standards and best practices.
