HV Transmission Engineering Lead

Location: London, Manchester or Aberdeen (Hybrid, with UK travel)
Sector: Energy & Infrastructure | High Voltage Transmission

We are partnering with a leading UK consultancy at the forefront of the energy transition to appoint an exceptional HV Transmission Engineering Lead
.

With a strong and growing pipeline of National Grid transmission and substation programmes, this is a pivotal leadership role within a highly respected engineering services team — offering the opportunity to shape major infrastructure projects that will define the UK’s power network for decades to come.

The Opportunity

As HV Transmission Engineering Lead, you will head an in-house electrical engineering team responsible for delivering complex transmission designs across the full project lifecycle — from tender and pre-construction through to construction, commissioning and handover.

You will operate at senior leadership level, driving engineering excellence, ensuring commercial alignment, and building a high-performing, future-ready team capable of delivering technically robust, compliant and innovative solutions.

This role offers hybrid working, predominantly based in London, Manchester or Aberdeen, with occasional travel across the UK as project needs require.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the senior interface between Engineering Services, project teams and external supply chain partners across a portfolio of HV Transmission projects

Lead, develop and inspire a team of electrical engineers and designers, ensuring capability, succession and resource planning align with programme demand

Take full accountability for engineering scope, budget and programme performance across multiple transmission contracts

Ensure smooth progression between design phases, with clear reporting of progress, risks and financial performance to senior stakeholders

Guarantee technically compliant, quality-controlled designs that meet regulatory and client specifications, including validation and assurance activities

Drive effective change management and value engineering to optimise cost, schedule and technical outcomes

Champion safety in design, sustainability, lean principles and digital innovation

Support bid development and work-winning activities as a subject matter expert, helping secure future HV transmission opportunities

What We’re Looking For

Strong track record delivering electrical engineering services across complex HV transmission programmes

Recent experience on National Grid substation projects

Proven ability to deliver complex engineering scopes to budget and programme

Experience leading and managing engineering teams, including resource forecasting and capability planning

Significant hands‑on design experience within HV transmission

Experience managing third‑party designers and subcontractors, including technical approvals and compliance oversight

Strong technical assurance capability across multi-disciplinary environments

Demonstrable commitment to safety in design, value engineering and continuous improvement

Experience setting up or improving engineering delivery systems, workflows, information management or quality control processes

Qualifications

Degree in a relevant engineering discipline

Chartered Engineer (IET, IMechE, ICE or equivalent)

Why This Role?

This is a rare opportunity to join a market‑leading consultancy with a strong reputation in the energy sector and a significant pipeline of nationally critical transmission projects.

You will have genuine strategic influence, visible leadership responsibility and the opportunity to build and shape a high‑performing engineering function within a business committed to growth, innovation and delivering the UK’s net‑zero ambitions.

If you are ready to lead from the front and make a tangible impact on the future of the UK’s transmission infrastructure, we would welcome a confidential conversation.
