Principal Building Structures Engineer
Stantec is seeking an experienced Principal Structural Engineer located near Manchester to deliver sustainable projects across diverse sectors.

The OpportunityAs a Principal Engineer, you will lead projects from concept through construction and manage a multidisciplinary team. You will collaborate with Water, MEP, Nuclear, Smart Energy, and Sustainability divisions.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design and delivery of structural engineering projects, from concept and scheme design to detailed design, tender, and construction packages.
- Oversee the preparation of calculation packages for submission to Building Control and ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards.
- Provide technical oversight and review contributions from project engineers and technicians.
- Promote innovation in design while maintaining high‑quality standards and adhering to Stantec’s quality assurance processes.
- Manage and develop graduate engineers, engineers, and technicians within your team.
- Take ownership of resource planning, ensuring the efficient allocation of team capacity across projects.
- Contribute to divisional initiatives such as task groups and design innovation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, and contractors.
- Support the preparation of fee proposals, bids, and ITTs.
- Participate in client networking and represent the team at industry events, focusing on cultivating new opportunities.
- MEng or BEng in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (or actively working towards it) with either the IStruct
E or ICE. - Proven experience in building structures design across various sectors.
- Proficiency in analysis, modelling, and hand calculations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams on projects.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage clients and inspire team members.
