Structural Engineer - Residential Homes

We are seeking a motivated Structural Engineer to join our growing team in Manchester, working primarily on residential housing projects. The role involves the design, analysis, and delivery of structural solutions for new-build and refurbishment residential properties, including low- to medium-rise housing developments. You will work closely with architects, developers, and contractors to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective structural designs in line with UK standards and best practice.
Key Responsibilities- Design structural elements for residential buildings, including foundations, steel, timber, masonry, and reinforced concrete
- Prepare structural calculations, drawings, and technical reports
- Carry out site visits, inspections, and surveys as required
- Ensure designs comply with relevant UK Building Regulations, Eurocodes, and British Standards
- Liaise with clients, architects, local authorities, and contractors
- Provide technical support during construction and respond to site queries
- Manage multiple projects and meet agreed deadlines and budgets
- Assist with mentoring junior engineers and technicians where appropriate
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- 2+ years' experience working on UK residential projects (houses, extensions, low-rise apartments)
- Strong knowledge of Eurocodes and UK Building Regulations
- Experience with structural design software (e.g. Tekla Tedds, AutoCAD, ETABS, Robot, or similar)
- Ability to produce clear calculations and drawings
- Good communication and problem-solving skills
- Full UK driving licence (preferred, due to site visits)
- Working towards Chartered status (ICE or IStruct
E) - Experience with timber frame and domestic steelwork design
- Familiarity with Party Wall matters and domestic alterations
- Experience liaising directly with homeowners and developers
