Our client is a global chemical manufacturer in the Manchester area who is looking to add an EC&I Engineer to their Engineering team. This is a hands‑on and varied role that combines engineering design, maintenance, safety management, and project delivery, with opportunities to contribute to plant‑wide improvement initiatives.

Greater Manchester

• A degree in Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineering (or related field)
• 510 years experience in EC&I engineering within high-hazard chemical, petrochemical, or similar heavy industry
• Strong knowledge of PLC / DCS systems, instrumentation calibration, loop checking, and functional safety
• Working knowledge of ATEX, DSEAR, COMAH, SIL and hazard studies (HAZOP, LOPA)
• Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and leadership skills
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards it (preferred)
• Conduct detailed engineering design of mechanical systems and components.

• Lead and develop EC&I standards (ATEX, DSEAR, SIL, functional safety) in line with legal and industry requirements
• Manage and deliver projects from concept to commissioning, ensuring on‑time, on‑budget execution
• Provide technical leadership for troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and reliability improvements
• Ensure regulatory compliance with COMAH, IEC 61508 / 61511, and other safety‑critical standards
• Act as the go‑to authority for control systems (PLC, DCS, SIS, instrumentation) across the site
• Mentor colleagues, manage contractors, and collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver safe and efficient outcomes
• Support the Engineering Manager with budget planning and cost control (projects up to £150k)
