We are seeking two Principal Highways Engineers to support with leading and delivering high-quality highways design and construction projects. You will manage complex programmes, oversee budgets, drive project delivery, and lead a team of engineers and technical staff to ensure projects are completed efficiently, safely, and sustainably.
Responsibilities- Lead the planning, design, and delivery of highways projects from the detailed design stage.
- Manage project budgets, resources, and programmes to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Provide technical leadership and expert advice on highway engineering standards, design, and construction techniques.
- Mentor, develop, and lead a team of engineers and technical staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders, external consultants, contractors, and statutory bodies to ensure successful project delivery.
- Drive continuous improvement in project management, design practices, and delivery processes.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations and policies.
- Incorporated or near Chartered Engineer status is (IEng/CEng) in Civil Engineering or related discipline is desirable.
- Significant experience leading and delivering highways or infrastructure projects.
- Proven track record of managing programmes, budgets, and multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Strong knowledge of highways design standards, project management methodologies, and construction practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience working within a local authority or public sector environment.
- Knowledge of sustainable transport and highway innovation initiatives.
