Position: Graduate Civil Engineer - Water (5867)

Graduate Civil Engineer – Water (5867)

Arup is looking for a Civil Engineer graduate to join the Water sector and contribute to resilient infrastructure projects across flood defence, sustainable urban drainage, wastewater treatment, and more.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out assessment, analysis and design, preparing design reports, drawings, calculations and specifications.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines – landscape architects, environmental specialists, geotechnical engineers, geomorphologists and more.
  • Meet with clients, national agencies, local authorities and other stakeholders, including site visits.
  • Specify and analyse survey information and constraints to support solution development.
  • Develop and appraise options, producing engineering solutions and business cases.
  • Undertake sustainability reviews, produce low/zero‑carbon strategies, embodied carbon calculations, carbon implementation plans, materials assessments and related studies.
  • Undertake feasibility studies, preparing engineering sketches and technical reports.
  • Create digital solutions to manipulate, analyse and report on large and complex data sets.
  • Use specialist analysis and design software (Info drainage, GIS, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Bentley Micro Station, Project Wise, Navisworks, Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, Info Works, etc.).
Qualifications and Criteria
  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a relevant Engineering discipline, expected 2:1 or above.
  • Aiming to develop a career in engineering with a view to obtain Professional Accreditation.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and deliver high‑quality work for a range of clients.
  • Strong communicator, capable of working independently or collaboratively in a team.
  • Passionate about creating a sustainable future for all.
  • Interested in exploring how digital methods and automation can enhance design and delivery.

You should be able to start this opportunity in September 2026.
