Salary: £31,650 - £49,084 per annum

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Teacher (SEN) - Maternity Cover to join Pioneer House High School. This is a fixed-term, full-time role covering maternity leave from July 2026 for one academic year or until post holder returns. This role is working on teaching terms and offering MPS–UPS plus SEN allowance.

We’re looking for:
You will need to be qualified to teach and work in the UK, with excellent communication skills and the ability to develop effective relationships with students, colleagues and families. Experience of working with children and/or young people with communication needs, or severe, profound or complex learning difficulties is highly desirable. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a Special Educational Needs school, supporting our pupils and colleagues to develop the school community in our beautiful purpose-built building.

Our curriculum is designed to equip students with the knowledge, practical skills and confidence they need for life beyond school. In Key Stage 3, students develop essential skills across a broad curriculum, while in Key Stages 4 and 5 students access work experience placements and, where appropriate, work towards accredited vocational qualifications.

Main purpose of the job:

  • As a Teacher, you will be expected to meet the characteristics described in the Professional Standards for Teachers and fulfil the professional responsibilities common to all classroom teachers.
  • You will play a key role in supporting the educational progress of students, improving standards of learning, and raising levels of student achievement across the school.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring that students experience an educational programme personalised to their needs, developing their skills and abilities
  • Planning, delivering and reviewing high-quality lessons that meet the learning needs of all students
  • Fostering a positive learning environment within the curriculum area that supports student progress
  • Leading, developing and enhancing the teaching practice or work of others where appropriate
  • Taking an active role in the day-to-day life of the school
  • Ensuring effective liaison with internal and external support agencies
  • Making an active contribution to the school’s ongoing self-evaluation process
