SEND Teaching Assistant - Alternative Provision (Secondary)
Location: Oldham, Greater Manchester
Salary: Dependent on experience
Contract: Full-Time Long-Term

Are you a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant looking to support young people who need a more personalised approach to learning?
If so, start immediately at this well-established Alternative Provision in Oldham that supports students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
The school caters for pupils who have struggled in mainstream education and require additional support to re‑engage with learning. Many students have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) including ASC and SEMH
, alongside behavioural challenges.
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to help students access their lessons and remain engaged throughout the school day. You will provide both in‑class support and targeted 1:1 or small group assistance
, helping to adapt learning activities and provide encouragement to pupils who require additional guidance.
Your role will involve supporting students academically, socially and emotionally, helping them to develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in school.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting students during lessons across a range of subjects
- Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND
- Helping to adapt learning materials to meet individual needs
- Encouraging engagement with classroom tasks and structured activities
- Supporting students with organisation, routines and transitions throughout the school day
- Assisting with behaviour management using agreed strategies
- Promoting positive relationships, independence and confidence
- Working collaboratively with teachers, support staff and pastoral teams
- Contributing to individual support plans and monitoring student progress
