Pastoral Manager

Key Purpose of the Role

• To lead and coordinate pastoral care provision across a year group or whole school.
• To promote positive behaviour, attendance, and engagement in learning.
• To act as a key point of contact for students, parents, and staff regarding welfare and behaviour concerns.

• Student Welfare & Support
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and emotional support to students.
  • Identify and address barriers to learning, including social, emotional, and behavioural issues.
  • Work closely with safeguarding leads to ensure student safety.
• Behaviour & Attendance
  • Monitor attendance and punctuality, implementing interventions where needed.
  • Support behaviour management strategies and restorative approaches.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, interventions, and progress.
• Parental & Community Engagement
  • Liaise with parents/carers to discuss concerns and progress.
  • Build positive relationships with external agencies (e.g., social services, youth support).
• Collaboration with Staff
  • Work alongside teachers, SENCOs, and senior leaders to support student needs.
  • Share good practice and contribute to staff training on pastoral matters.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Empathy, patience, and resilience.
• Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
• Organisational skills and the ability to prioritise.

• Experience in a pastoral, welfare, or youth work role.
• Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Understanding of behaviour management strategies.
