Are you an enthusiastic and compassionate teacher looking to make a real difference in the lives of young people with special educational needs and disabilities?

Oakwood Academy is seeking a committed and creative Year 8 Class Teacher to join our welcoming and inclusive special school community. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a skilled and dedicated team delivering high‑quality, personalised education to pupils with a range of SEND, including moderate learning difficulties, communication and interaction needs, and social, emotional and mental health needs.

About Us:

Oakwood Academy is a special school for pupils aged 9 to 19 years who have a range of moderate and/or complex learning difficulties; we are proud to be part of Kings Academy Trust.

Ofsted has judged the school as ‘Outstanding’ in its last four inspections, most recently in January 2024. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum for all pupils with cutting‑edge facilities in a nurturing environment.

Oakwood Academy is a vibrant and supportive school community, where every child is known, valued, and encouraged to thrive both academically and socially. We understand the enormous responsibility of preparing our pupils for their future lives. Our hope is that we can help children become responsible citizens who will make a positive contribution to our ever‑changing society.

As part of a Multi‑Academy Trust, staff also benefit from opportunities to collaborate with colleagues across other schools. We welcome applications from both Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced teachers alike.

The Role:

You will lead a small Year 8 class of pupils with diverse SEND needs, supported by experienced teaching assistants. You will plan and deliver an engaging and accessible curriculum that meets the individual needs of your learners, fostering independence, communication, and social skills alongside academic progress.

We invite applications from excellent practitioners with primary or secondary SEND experience. The successful candidates will:

  • Be excellent practitioners with the commitment and motivation to inspire pupils’ learning and development
  • Be able to demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation through imaginative and differentiated lessons which meet individual needs
  • Have specific experience / interest in working with pupils with SEND
  • Have the ability to foster good relationships with other staff, pupils, parents and the wider community
  • Will have had experience of planning and delivering a wide range of National Curriculum subjects with a focus on English, Maths and Science
We offer:
  • Friendly, well‑behaved and enthusiastic pupils eager to learn
  • A leadership team that is committed to staff development and pupil outcomes
  • Parents and carers who are supportive of their children’s education
  • Planning and working as part of a strong and established team
  • An inclusive school striving for high standards of attainment for all.
  • A dedicated and motivated staff team who strongly believe in team work and building positive relationships across the school

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to a fully enhanced DBS check.
