Role Overview

As an SEN Teaching Assistant with We Do Social Work, you will support pupils with Special Educational Needs on a one-to-one or small group basis. You will play a vital role in helping children access education, build confidence, and develop both academically and emotionally within a safe and inclusive school environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide tailored support to pupils with a range of SEN, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, and learning difficulties

  • Support pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, both inside and outside the classroom

  • Assist the class teacher and SENCO in delivering differentiated learning activities

  • Implement behaviour support strategies in line with individual education or behaviour plans

  • Promote positive behaviour, engagement, and emotional regulation

  • Support pupils with social, emotional, and personal development

  • Monitor and record progress, feeding back to teachers and relevant staff

  • Support with personal care where required (training provided if applicable)

  • Ensure safeguarding, wellbeing, and inclusion are always prioritised

Essential Requirements
  • Experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs

  • A patient, nurturing, and resilient approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to follow guidance from teaching staff and SENCOs

  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

Desirable Skills and Experience
  • Experience working within a primary school setting

  • SEN-specific training (e.g. ASD, SEMH, behaviour management, Team Teach)

  • Relevant qualifications (Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent)
