The Role

The Student Support Officer role is a position that works with young people, supporting students and running programs to meet different needs. The Student Support Officer works closely with our Student Support teams to provide and support for the social, emotional and academic needs of individuals and groups of students. They work collaboratively with their sub‑school team to assist in developing and introducing school planning and intervention strategies.

The role is responsive and aims to provide effective support for students to maintain appropriate school attendance, behaviour and goal setting. Suitable candidates will ideally have exceptional interpersonal skills to develop supportive links between the student, the family, the school and other appropriate agencies in the community.

The Student Support Officer role also involves a wide range of administrative and student‑focused support services within the school. This could include breakfast club, support groups, lunch‑time activities, event planning or individualised programmes to support students. Candidates should have the capacity to document incidents or actions and maintain thorough records. Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office and Department of Education databases (student records, management information systems related to attendance, good standing, uniform, and student services entries) are desirable.

    • Demonstrated skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students experiencing difficulties.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services.
