Experienced Secondary Teaching Assistant - full time at a secondary school in South Manchester
Monday - Friday, Term time only
We are currently seeking an experienced Secondary Teaching Assistant to work on a full‑time basis in a secondary school in Manchester
. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to support students across Key Stages 3 and 4, working closely with teachers and pastoral staff to promote positive learning outcomes.
- Supporting students in the classroom, either one‑to‑one or in small groups
- Assisting teachers with lesson delivery and classroom management
- Providing targeted support to students with additional learning needs (SEN experience desirable)
- Assisting teachers in adapting lessons and resources to meet individual needs
- Implementing behaviour support strategies and de‑escalation techniques where required
- Supporting students with emotional regulation, social skills, and engagement in learning
- Working closely with the SENCO, teachers, and pastoral teams to monitor progress and provide feedback
- Promoting inclusion and positive behaviour within the classroom and wider school environment
- Assisting with personal or academic support where necessary (depending on pupil needs)
- Providing one‑to‑one and small group support for students with SEN, including those with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and moderate learning difficulties
- Supporting students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) in line with individual learning targets
- Encouraging student engagement, behaviour, and academic progress
- Supporting pupils with literacy, numeracy, and subject‑specific work
- Assisting with preparation of learning materials and resources
- Supervising students during lessons and school activities as required
- Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a secondary school
- Strong understanding of the secondary curriculum (KS3 & KS4)
- Proven experience supporting SEN pupils in a secondary school setting
- Strong understanding of a range of SEND needs and effective support strategies
- Experience working with EHCPs and targeted interventions
- Confident managing challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students
- Patient, resilient, and adaptable approach
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
