Senior Locally Employed Doctor in Paediatric Neurometabolic Disorders

The closing date is 17 February 2026.

This clinical fellow post has arisen within the neurometabolic service in Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. This post will provide excellent opportunities for gaining experience in the management of children and young people with various neurometabolic disorders, predominantly Batten disease, metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD) and inherited white matter disorders (IWMD).

RMCH is the largest centre providing cerliponase alfa treatment to children with CLN2 Batten disease in the UK. It is also the sole UK site providing stem cell gene therapy for MLD, receiving national and international referrals to the service. RMCH is also part of the specialist commissioned IWMD service.

Experience will also be gained through roles and responsibilities particularly in neurometabolic clinics and MDTs as well as inpatient assessment of children admitted for regular enzyme replacement therapy.

At the end of the 12-month post, the Senior Clinical Fellow will have gained considerable experience and expertise in the clinical management of patients with complex neurometabolic disorders.

Main duties of the job

The focus of the Clinical Fellow post will be to develop experience and contribute to outpatient and inpatient management and care of patients with neurometabolic disorders.

The Clinical Fellow will contribute to the care of inpatients within the paediatric neurology department, when needed, and will work within a team of junior doctors as listed above, providing support and advice to the doctors depending on the experience of the Clinical Fellow.
