Job Summary
A unique two-year clinical fellowship based between two world-leading Phase I units. We seek ambitious and innovative individuals with an interest in early phase clinical trials and research. With consultant oversight you will see new referrals, manage follow-ups, and oversee patients throughout all aspects of their trial experience.
There is potential to undertake a fully funded postgraduate MD degree co-supervised by colleagues at The Christie and Peter Mac via The University of Manchester. The position is suitable for those on/near the end of a specialist oncology training pathway, with preference given to those seeking further experience in experimental medicine and Phase I trials, including first-in-human, clinical pharmacology, and translational research.
Salary aligns with The Christie and Peter Mac scales according to experience. Interviews may occur outside normal UK hours to facilitate a joint panel between The Christie and PMCC. The fellowship is anticipated to commence in Manchester between Summer 2026 and February 2027, with some flexibility.
The portfolio includes a diverse range of clinical research trials. Following training, you will participate in these studies as a sub-investigator. Trials may include phase I trials of small molecule inhibitors, next-generation chemotherapy trials, combination/multi-modality phase I trials, advanced therapy trials, molecular characterisation/translational studies, and radiotherapy trials.
- Manage all aspects of trial patients in outpatient and inpatient settings across a range of solid tumours, including new patient consultation, consent, screening, and follow-up reviews.
- Attend safety review committee meetings to discuss trial patients; liaise with Principal Investigators and external stakeholders such as CROs and pharmaceutical sponsors.
- Attend monthly molecular tumour board meetings to discuss trial patients and identify enrolment opportunities in early phase trials.
- Perform administrative duties related to patient care and contribute to development and planning of new studies.
- Opportunity to present research, contribute to writing papers and reviews, and undergo annual appraisal.
The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 64,000 patients annually. Based in Manchester, we provide cutting-edge radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery, and a wide range of support and diagnostic services. We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials each year.
The Peter Mac Callum Cancer Centre is Australia’s only public comprehensive cancer centre dedicated to cancer care, located in Melbourne.
