Senior Clinical Fellow – Transplantation & Organ Retrieval

Applications are invited for a fixed‑term (1 year, potentially renewable with mutual agreement) Senior Clinical Fellow in Transplantation & Organ Retrieval at Manchester Royal Infirmary. The post is within the Department of Renal and Pancreas Transplantation – the largest unit in the country – and will support both transplant and general surgery services, caring for adults and children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support renal and pancreatic transplantation surgery, vascular access surgery, general surgery and endocrine surgery.
  • Participate in all aspects of organ retrieval – including National Organ Retrieval Service (NORS) opportunities – and act as a core member of the Manchester organ retrieval team.
  • Assist in developing a portfolio structure for transplant and general surgical trainees, providing registrar‑level participation in scheduled emergency lists and elective opportunities.
  • Work closely with the Clinical Director and nephrology colleagues across all grades.
  • Deliver clinical care in a large multidisciplinary service; no extensive laparoscopic donor nephrectomy experience is expected.
Professional Development

Although this role is not recognised for postgraduate training, it offers excellent exposure to elective and emergency surgery across transplant and general surgical specialties. The post provides a platform for career progression within a leading NHS Centre of Clinical Excellence.
