Position: Locally Employed Doctor | Greater Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust

Overview

This is a full-time resident doctor role working in a 21 bedded Later Life Inpatient unit. You will work with one Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist and 2 FY / CT/ST /GPST trainees on this unit. Golborne is a Later life inpatient unit where male and female patients with later life needs are admitted with both organic and functional mental health illnesses.

Responsibilities
  • Clerking new patients
  • Assessing and managing physical health conditions of the patients on the ward
  • Completing regular mental state examinations and risk assessments for admitted patients
  • Liaison with external agencies such as GPs and acute medical staff
  • Attending ward rounds and documentation of ward rounds
  • Completing discharge summaries and discharge prescriptions, Assisting the consultant in Mental Health Tribunals, preparing tribunal reports, SOAD requests

Leadership Roles
  • Be involved in clinical governance related activities such as audits and quality improvement projects.
Educational Roles
  • Provide teaching to medical students, supervision to FY1 and 2 trainees
Expectations / Requirements

It is expected that the post holder will:

  • Undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients. Record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively in a timely manner in our electronic patient notes.
  • Maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council and abide by professional codes of conduct.
  • Comply with the Trust's agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and to take an active role in the financial management of the service and support the medical director and other managers in preparing plans for services.

They need to:

  • Take a proactive role in identifying risk and acting on the results to resolve problems at source wherever possible bearing in mind resources and priorities and liaising with line management.
  • Take part in risk management practices both clinical and non-clinical in line with the Trust's Risk Management Strategy.
  • Be open and honest and report actual and potential incidents and participate in developing systems to identify and record and respond to near misses

Please note this post requires minimum of 1 years experience in Psychiatry in LED / CT level in the UK
