The Paediatric Haematology Department at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital is seeking a locum consultant to support the general haematology service supporting haemoglobinopathy, haemostasis & thrombosis and laboratory haematology. The post holder will work alongside the existing Consultant Paediatric Haematologists for general haematology.

The haemoglobinopathy and hemostasis services are the largest units outside of London with over 400 registered haemoglobinopathy and over 400 registered inherited bleeding disorder patients. Manchester is the sickle cell coordinating centre for the North West and thalassaemia coordinating centre for North England. The unit is active in research, clinical trials and stem cell therapies. It has recently been designated as one of the 3 centres in England delivering gene therapy for sickle cell disease and thalassaemia.

The unit is also a comprehensive care centre for patients with bleeding disorders.

Main duties of the job
  • Severe bleeding disorders and non-severe bleeding disorders clinics
  • New patient clinics
  • Monthly regional thalassaemia/rare anaemia clinic
  • General haematology clinic
  • Monthly regional sickle cell MDT
  • Monthly adult/paediatric haemostasis MDT
  • Haemoglobinopathy clinic
  • Local haematology MDT
  • Quarterly joint haematology/gynaecology MDT
  • Hydroxyurea clinic
  • ITP clinic
  • Monthly thalassaemia/rare anaemia clinic
  • On-call rota
