The role is designed for doctors seeking structured experience in neonatal medicine, offering comprehensive exposure to a high‑volume, high‑acuity neonatal setting with over 1000 admissions per year.

The Junior Clinical Fellow (JCF) position is suitable for doctors interested in gaining hands‑on experience in neonatal intensive care, neonatal resuscitation, and multidisciplinary team (MDT) working. The post is particularly beneficial for those planning to enter higher specialist training in paediatrics/neonatology or considering alternative pathways such as CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration).

Main duties of the job
  • Providing clinical care in neonatal medicine, including intensive care, high‑dependency, and special care settings.
  • Attending high‑risk deliveries and postnatal ward rounds.
  • Participating in antenatal counselling alongside senior clinicians.
  • Developing skills in neonatal resuscitation and procedural competence (intubation, line placement, ultrasound guidance).
  • Working within a multidisciplinary team, including neonatal nurse practitioners (NNPs), allied health professionals, and specialist consultants.
  • Attending weekly teaching sessions, simulation training, and neonatal grand rounds.
  • Engaging in quality improvement (QI), clinical governance, and research activities.

Why Join Us?

  • Hands‑on training in one of the largest tertiary NICUs in the UK.
  • Access to cutting‑edge neonatal technology, ultrasound training, and point‑of‑care diagnostics.
  • Opportunity to gain exposure to specialist areas such as neonatal surgery, neurocritical care, and long‑term ventilation.
  • Involvement in education and leadership development through mentorship by senior consultants.
  • Support for career progression, CESR applications, and future training opportunities.

Who?

  • Candidates with a minimum of six months' experience in neonatal or paediatric medicine.
  • GMC‑registered doctors (or those eligible for GMC registration).
  • Applicants with MRCPCH Part 1 (desirable).
  • Candidates keen on developing expertise in neonatal care, clinical education, and leadership.
