Join our Central Community Macmillan team and help improve access to vital community health services across Manchester.

We are looking for a proactive and efficient Medical Secretary to support the delivery of timely, accurate, and compassionate management. As the first point of contact for referrers and service users, you will play a vital role in ensuring seamless access to community health services.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will provide comprehensive, professional and medical clerical and administrative support to consultants, clinical leads and/or community team(s). The post holder is expected to be aware of specialty typing requirements using their own initiative with guidance from clinical services. The role will involve the coordination and implementation of office procedures and will require a high degree of organisational skills and excellent working knowledge of administrative systems.

The post holder will often be the first point of contact and a focal point requiring clear communication and liaison skills.

The post holder will be required to work as part of a team at a community base and provide cross cover during periods of staff absence.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Good standard of numeracy and literacy
  • Word processing – qualified to RSA II/NVQ level 3 Business Admin or equivalent qualification / demonstrable skills (60+ wpm at 95% accuracy).
  • European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) or equivalent qualification.
  • Association of Medical Secretaries, Practice Managers, Administrators and Receptionists (AMSPAR) Medical Secretarial Diploma.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft packages.

    Advanced keyboard skills.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner.
  • Proven organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload with interruptions and changing priorities.
  • Good numerical skills.
  • Ability to multi‑task and prioritise own workload.
  • Knowledge of a full range of administration procedures and their application to improve service efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Understanding of the Data Protection Act.
  • Knowledge of Information Governance with regard to maintaining confidentiality of person identifiable information.
Experience
  • Significant experience of providing clerical services and experience of working with medical terminology and/or medical audio/typing.
  • Experience of providing secretarial services in a hospital / community environment.
  • Experience of using Information, Management and Technology systems for data entry.
  • Experience of successfully working within tight time frames and to deadlines.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the National Health Service.
  • Experience of using Patient Administration Systems.
  • Minute taking and digital dictation systems experience.
