Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting career opportunity for an entry-level Electrical Controls Engineer. The primary responsibility is upgrading and maintaining facility and motion control systems to meet specified plant and test conditions. The engineer will apply control theory, electrical standards, and PLC software skills to develop system requirements, specifications, and designs, while also assisting with system installation and deployment.
This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with a large team of engineering professionals dedicated to satisfying customers and delivering projects on time and within budget.
Open to internal and external candidates. This position may require occasional extended hours and weekend work to meet critical contractual requirements and to support outage activities. Occasional travel between AEDC facilities may also be necessary.
Job SummaryThe successful candidate will apply expertise in electrical design, safety standards, programming, configuration management, and testing to develop complex electrical and control systems. They will also assist with requirements development, cost and schedule estimation, procurement, fabrication, and system deployment.
Job Duties Core Responsibilities- Develop and design automated control systems and low voltage power circuits.
- Create electrical design drawings, including concept sketches, layouts, and bills of materials.
- Develop control system software using PLC ladder logic, function blocks, and HMI programming.
- Prepare specifications, design calculations, engineering studies, reports, and test procedures.
- Assist in developing project requirements.
- Prepare labor and material cost estimates.
- Specify materials for procurement.
- Support hardware assembly, fabrication, and installation.
- Perform facility checkouts, startups, and commissioning.
- Provide periodic cost and schedule reports to the Project Manager.
- Review design documents from equipment manufacturers and subcontractors, preparing comments and recommendations.
- Prepare Statement of Work (SOW) packages for outside contractors and review their submittals.
- Participate in and foster a work environment based on openness, trust, communication, teamwork, and innovation.
- Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by company policy and supervisory direction.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Bachelor of Science degree in electrical or mechatronics engineering from an accredited college or university (ABET accreditation preferred).
- Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.
- Current U. S. Citizenship required.
- Demonstrated interest in electronics, instrumentation, low-voltage power systems, control systems, PLCs, variable frequency drive (VFD) systems, motion control systems, sensors, transmitters, actuators, valves, PID control, and industrial communication networks.
- An active security clearance.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
- Experience in design, systems startup, or field engineering within large industrial plants, utilities, or OEM firms.
- Knowledge of control system theory and design concepts, including:
- Control Strategy and Algorithm Development
- Math Modeling and Simulation
- Motion and Process Controls
- Servomechanisms, and System Safety
- Coursework or experience with electrical control circuits, power circuits, and PID control systems.
- Experience designing or applying control systems using Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) software.
- Familiarity with Emerson PLCs, automation hardware, and Cimplicity related software.
