A Language Bank Interpreter provides professional interpretation services to assist communication between individuals with limited English proficiency and service providers in judicial proceedings, health settings, or social services venues. The role requires rendering messages faithfully, maintaining confidentiality, and demonstrating a professional appearance and conduct. Interpreters must be familiar with the interpreter code of ethics and capable of performing consecutive, simultaneous, and sight translation as needed.
Responsibilities- Render messages faithfully, conveying both content and spirit of the speaker.
- Be dependable, reliable, and prompt at all times.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all assignment-related information.
- Perform consecutive, simultaneous, or sight translation depending on the situation.
- Accept assignments with discretion regarding skill, setting, and client type.
- Act in a manner appropriate to each interpreted situation, demonstrating professionalism.
- Follow the interpreter code of ethics for medical and legal settings (e.g., IMIA, NAJIT, NCIHC).
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work as described herein to assist in meeting the goals of Ascentria.
- High School Diploma or GED required; two years of college preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in English and the target language.
- Ability to provide accurate and impartial interpretation in both directions.
- Certificate of completed Nationally Recognized Interpreting Training.
- Two years of related experience preferred.
- Acceptable criminal background check.
- Willingness to travel and work a flexible schedule.
Sedentary - Involves sitting most of the time, with occasional walking or standing. Repeat the same movements.
- Requires driving own vehicle to various sites.
- Speak clearly so listeners can understand.
- Focus on one source of sound and ignore others.
- Hear sounds and recognize the difference between them.
- See details of objects whether they are nearby or far away.
