A well-established and respected employer in Manchester, NH is seeking a Senior HR Benefits Specialist to join their growing HR team. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on employee experience by leading Leave of Absence administration and supporting comprehensive benefits programs for an organization of 1000+ employees.

Position Overview

The Senior HR Benefits Specialist will serve as the subject matter expert for all Leave of Absence programs, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations while providing exceptional support to employees during critical life events. This role requires a detail-oriented professional who can balance regulatory requirements with compassionate employee service.

Responsibilities
  • Leave Of Absence Administration (Primary Focus)
    • Spearhead all Leave of Absence programs including FMLA, ADA, state disability, workers' compensation, personal leaves, and parental leave
    • Serve as primary point of contact for employees and managers regarding leave requests and accommodation needs
    • Review and process leave applications, determine eligibility, and coordinate with third-party administrators
    • Track leave usage, ensure proper documentation, and maintain accurate records in HRIS
    • Ensure compliance with federal (FMLA, ADA, USERRA) and state leave regulations
    • Coordinate return-to-work processes and reasonable accommodations
    • Partner with payroll to ensure accurate leave tracking and benefit continuation
    • Develop and maintain leave policies, procedures, and employee communications
  • Benefits Administration
    • Support open enrollment planning and execution
    • Assist employees with benefits inquiries and resolve escalated issues
    • Maintain benefits data accuracy in HRIS and vendor systems
    • Coordinate with benefits brokers and insurance carriers
    • Process qualifying life events and COBRA administration
    • Support wellness initiatives and employee engagement programs
  • Compliance & Reporting
    • Ensure compliance with ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, and other benefits-related regulations
    • Prepare required reporting and filings
    • Conduct audits to ensure data integrity and compliance
    • Stay current on legislative changes impacting leave and benefits programs
Qualifications Required:
  • 5+ years of HR benefits experience with strong focus on Leave of Absence administration
  • Expert knowledge of FMLA, ADA, state disability laws, and workers' compensation
  • Experience managing leave programs for organizations with 500+ employees
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems (Workday, ADP, UKG, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of benefits compliance requirements
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to explain complex regulations in accessible terms
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and compassion
Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field
  • CEBS, PHR, SPHR, or SHRM-CP/SCP certification
  • Experience with third-party leave administrators (such as The Hartford, Met Life, Sedgwick)
  • Knowledge of New Hampshire and multi-state leave regulations
  • Background in self-insured or large employer benefit programs
