Overview
Do you want your work to truly matter? Healthcare for the Homeless is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented CMA/PAS to support providers delivering high-quality, dignified care to individuals experiencing homelessness, housing instability, or limited access to healthcare. This is a 30 hour/week position and is benefits eligible.
In this role, you’ll combine hands-on clinical support with care coordination and prior authorization work, helping remove barriers so patients can access the care they need.
Responsibilities- Support providers during patient visits, exams, and procedures, including preparation, assistance, and post-procedure monitoring
- Obtain and document vital signs, patient history, medications, allergies, and preventative care information
- Prepare exam rooms and instrument trays, including sterile procedures
- Perform point-of-care testing, specimen handling, and lab processing in accordance with CLIA and program guidelines
- Administer vaccines and assist with diagnostic testing (EKG, hearing, vision, breathing tests) as directed
- Obtain prior authorizations for medications and diagnostic procedures; communicate approvals or denials to providers
- Monitor insurance formularies and keep the care team informed of changes
- Schedule follow-up visits and support patient education as directed
- Serve as a liaison between patients, providers, and internal/external partners
- Assist patients in navigating healthcare and community-based services, including escorting as needed
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program
- Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) required within 6 months of hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- 2–3 years of experience in a healthcare setting, including administrative or insurance-related work
- Strong data entry and basic computer skills
- Experience working with, or a strong commitment to serving vulnerable populations
- Valid driver’s license or ability to travel to off-site locations
