Financial Manager
Reporting to: Head of Corporate Operations
OverviewThe Controller is a hands-on role leading the financial operations for the company. They are responsible for producing accurate, timely financial data and reporting that leadership can trust for decision-making. They will rebuild and lead a small finance team, establish financial controls and standardized processes, and serve as the primary financial partner to company leadership and ownership.
Core Functions- Monthly close process and financial statement preparation
- Routine financial analysis of financial data, profitability, and forecasts
- Annual reviewed financials coordination and tax compliance support
- Banking relationships and covenant compliance
- Construction Accounting
- WIP management and job costing oversight
- Retainage tracking, and construction AR aging and collections oversight
- Warehouse inventory reconciliation, stored materials tracking, and periodic inventory counts
- Service Division Accounting
- Service division margin and profitability analysis
- Reconciliation of service billing (produced by service admin) to financial records
- Service AR aging and collections oversight
- Operations
- Cash flow forecasting and management
- AP/AR oversight (construction and service)
- Credit card reconciliation oversight, payment processing, and credit line management
- Payroll accounting and reconciliation
- Manage finance team
- Standardize, document, and hold team accountable to department protocols and processes
- Ensure accuracy and reliability of financial data across all systems and resolve data integrity issues
- Strategic Support
- Additional performance analysis (e.g., KPIs, operational metrics)
- Team Development
- Develop finance team members’ capabilities
- Cross-functional collaboration with division leaders and project managers
- Process improvement initiatives
- Insurance and bonding coordination
- 5+ years of construction accounting experience with strong knowledge of key concepts, like percentage-of-completion accounting, WIP management, and job costing
- Strong Excel skills and ability to build financial models and reports
- Experience managing financial systems (Sage Intacct experience strongly preferred)
- Proficiency with managing integrations with service and/or project management software, such as Procore, Build Ops, or similar (Preferred)
- Experience coordinating audits and managing banking and credit relationships
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Hands-on problem solving, able to both lead a team and do the work
- Detail-orientation with commitment to accuracy and follow-through
- Proven people leader able to manage finance teams and develop staff capabilities
- Strong communication skills and team mindset
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, customer-focused entrepreneurial environment
- Continuous improvement mindset with the ability to design
