ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP is looking for a Performance Engineer to join our Public Sector East team in New England. Frequent travel (approximately 20%-40%), including overnight stays is required.
The Performance Engineer has exhibited outstanding performance in both project development and the advancement of ESG ideals, and is expected to have a holistic, programmatic, and strategic approach to various vertical markets or clients, serving as subject matter expert for applicable elements. As the primary technical project developer within an ESG region, the Performance Engineer is responsible for understanding the technical needs and wants of a customer and turning that information into accurate concrete solutions.
Responsibilities include technical issues such as facility utility‑consumption analysis, reduction strategies, general capital improvements, and large‑scale community infrastructure projects.
The Performance Engineer is responsible for technical strategies, costing of projects, forecasting energy reduction, creating a plan to measure and verify stated reductions, presenting findings and solutions to customers and managers, and assisting the delivery team to ensure smooth installations and exceptional results, including assessing key risk elements such as constructability, scope, costs and guarantee.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct in‑depth site surveys to identify mechanical and operating inefficiencies within a facility; analyze utility bills and financials; meet with contractors and provide technically sound, creative, and economical solutions.
- Facilitate communication among internal team, sub‑contractors, and customers by creating written and schematic technical plans that convey solutions and risk.
- Perform energy savings calculations, operational savings calculations, life‑cycle cost analysis, and feasibility analysis of recommendations and associated risks; establish guaranteed savings based on proposed measures.
- Create financial models based on customer parameters and project results.
- Coordinate with Account Executive and Project Manager to develop and present proposals to customers.
- Coordinate with Project Manager to ensure smooth installation and act as communication link between operations and sales teams.
- Identify and work with subcontractors and consultants to provide technical analysis and descriptions for project installation, ensuring the quality of work exceeds job requirements.
- Approve equipment before ordering to ensure accurate estimates and on‑time delivery.
- Keep abreast of current technologies by reading articles, attending seminars and conferences, and developing relationships with contractors and suppliers.
- Keep abreast of regional legislation that impacts project development.
- Evaluate risk associated with technical feasibility, constructability, scope, costs, and guarantee.
- Maintain full technical understanding of energy and plant/facility operations and serve as ongoing technical resource consultant for the customer.
- Bachelor's degree from an ABET‑accredited or equivalent engineering program.
- Must have seven (7) years of engineering experience.
- At least ten (10) years of engineering experience in construction or a related industry.
- Professional Engineering license and at least one certification from:
- CEM
- CMVP
- Any LEED Certification
- NEBB
- TAB
- Any ASHRAE Certification
