Overview
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval - award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.
Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
A Physician - Diagnostic Radiologist is responsible for providing diagnostic radiology care to patients and has completed an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited Radiology residency program (or an equivalent foreign program). They perform and interpret diagnostic imaging - interventional or nuclear medicine studies. Radiologists follow the guidelines of the American College of Radiology (ACR) and are guided by the Appropriateness Criteria developed by ACR or Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI).
To qualify, you must meet the basic requirements below and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA employees who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
The incumbent must have:(1) Demonstrated commitment to an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery; (2) Documented ability to coordinate a broad continuum of programs; (3) Management experience with strong administrative and interpersonal skills; (4) Demonstrated skills in providing clinical interface with academic affiliates and other key stakeholders.
Basic Requirements
- United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy - Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent
- The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
- Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
- Residency Training:
Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification - Approved residencies are: (1) ACGME, (2) AOA, or (3) Other residencies with five years of verified practice in the United States as deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee
- Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs) and must be fully licensed physicians; PRPs may be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis and are not considered independent practitioners
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Additional Requirement:
Board Certification in Radiology;
Maintains BLS certification;
Maintains an active medical license in the United States;

- Physical Requirements:
The work is sedentary;
Applicants must meet physical standards for the position; A physical examination prior to placement is required - This is a designated drug testing position;
After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use - Requires lifting 15-44 pounds; pushing (approx. 2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers and both hands; walking and standing for 3-5 hours and kneeling
- Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously;
Must have depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors and shades - Hearing aid is permitted
- Provide diagnostic radiology care to patients and perform/interpret diagnostic imaging - interventional or nuclear medicine studies
- Follow guidelines of the American College of Radiology (ACR) and be guided by Appropriateness Criteria developed by ACR or SNMMI
- Possess advanced clinical experience and demonstrate administrative and leadership skills
- Participate in annual performance appraisals for physicians in the Diagnostic Imaging organization as applicable
- Interpret X-ray, CT, MRI, US, and nuclear medicine exams; perform and interpret fluoroscopy; protocol and approve CT, MRI, and nuclear medicine exams; notify ordering physicians of critical results
