The Greater Manchester Region comprises Manchester Memorial Hospital, a 249‑bed community hospital;
Rockville General, a 102‑bed campus; a large multispecialty provider group and visiting nurse services. The region serves approximately 300,000 people in 19 towns.

Position Summary

Utilizing the nursing process, the RN provides high‑quality direct and indirect patient‑centered care.
Coordinates patient care collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team. Communicates the patient’s clinical condition as appropriate, responding quickly and accurately to changes or treatment responses. Responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic milieu with age‑specific behavioral management practices. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan and the skills necessary to provide age‑appropriate care. Promotes nursing professionalism through collegial support and interactions.

Reports to the Clinical Coordinator and creates a caring environment through Core Values of Teamwork, Respect, and Communication.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current Registered Nurse license in Connecticut.
  • Trained in de‑escalation techniques and certified within the orientation period of hire.
  • Receive RQI certification within three (3) months of hire and maintain clinical competency for the duration of employment.
Competencies
  • Effectively communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Possess basic computer skills.
  • Capable of taking swift and efficient action, including patient restraint when responding to patient emergency codes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs comprehensive assessments and re‑assessments of the patient’s condition and care needs, including psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural aspects, as evidenced by supervisor observation and chart audits.
  • Assesses and reassesses pain, utilizes appropriate pain management tools and techniques, educates the patient and family, and documents assessments, interventions, and evaluation of effectiveness.
  • Develops and revises individualized treatment plans based on assessment and patient response, involving the patient and family in goal formulation, with documentation reflecting effectiveness.
  • Follows the seven (7) medication rights and reduces potential medication errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications—including psychotropic drugs—based on patient age and clinical condition.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes safety and promotes positive outcomes.
  • Documents the nursing process and responses to care promptly using appropriate tools.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under stressful situations, utilizing critical thinking and sound judgment in priority setting and delegation.
  • Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs, evaluates effectiveness, and includes the family as appropriate.
  • Practices autonomously in an evidence‑based manner, pursuing professional growth and serving as a mentor.
  • Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment, evidenced by appropriate interventions and feedback from patients, peers, and supervisors.
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise, empathy, and interpersonal warmth, as reflected in supervisor and peer observations and satisfaction surveys; promotes sensitivity to psychiatric patients’ privacy needs.
  • Uses psychological and physical management techniques to manage violent or potentially violent situations, consistent with CPI training.
  • Participates in Early Response codes and Dr. Strong codes, attends PMT refresher trainings.
  • Sets limits with patients and maintains appropriate professional and personal boundaries.
  • Collaborates and communicates with the treatment team to meet patient needs.
  • Provides psychotherapeutic treatment, with documentation of interventions and group sessions.
