Engineering Manager – Aerospace Manufacturing About the Opportunity
A rapidly growing aerospace manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead manufacturing engineering activities supporting complex fabricated and machined assemblies. This role plays a critical part in delivering high-quality products on time while driving continuous improvement, new product introduction, and operational excellence.
The Engineering Manager oversees manufacturing engineering, tooling, CNC programming, and related technical functions. This leader will guide project execution, process development, capital planning, and cross-functional collaboration to support both existing production and new business initiatives.
This position reports to site leadership.
Position OverviewThe Engineering Manager leads technical strategy and execution for a high-mix, build-to-print manufacturing environment serving aerospace and defense customers. Responsibilities include managing engineering teams, supporting business development, launching new programs, implementing advanced manufacturing technologies, and ensuring robust, defect‑free production processes.
The ideal candidate brings extensive hands‑on manufacturing engineering leadership experience within sheet metal fabrication and machining, preferably in aerospace applications.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team including manufacturing engineering, tooling, CNC programming, and toolmaking
- Direct product and process development, production support, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Drive new product introductions, prototype builds, and program launches
- Serve as technical lead for customer engagement and voice‑of‑customer activities
- Manage process development projects across internal teams and external partners
- Provide project management leadership to ensure on‑time, efficient execution
- Establish standardized methods, best practices, and process controls across operations
- Develop and maintain APQP documentation including process flows, PFMEAs, and control plans
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action using structured problem‑solving tools
- Support capital equipment and tooling justification, acquisition, and implementation
- Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams on fixtures, gages, and manufacturability
- Interface with suppliers on new technologies and process improvements
- Support quoting, value engineering, and technical presentations for new and repeat business
- Provide technical guidance to manufacturing, quality, and advanced engineering teams
- Forecast departmental costs and participate in budgeting activities
- Ensure compliance with quality systems, safety standards, and environmental requirements
- Act as subject matter expert for assigned processes and customer requirements
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 10+ years of manufacturing engineering leadership experience in aerospace or similar regulated industries
- Strong background in sheet metal forming, machining, welding, heat treating, brazing, and assembly within a high‑mix/low‑volume environment
- Demonstrated success leading new product launches from concept through production
- Deep understanding of aerospace manufacturing processes and GD&T
- Experience with cold forming, hydro forming exposure, CNC machining, TIG/resistance welding preferred
- Proven ability to lead continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, DMAIC, PDCA, RCCA)
- Strong project management skills; PMP certification is a plus
- Experience implementing automation and advanced manufacturing technologies
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and CAD/CAM tools (Solid Works, NX, or similar)
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and regulatory requirements
- Financial acumen to track product costs from quote through production
- Comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, changing environment
